Anishinaabe poet and author Gerald Vizenor will visit the community of Mahnomen through an artist-in-residence program on Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11! All events are FREE of charge to those that attend.

Gerald will speak about the changes in historical references to Native Americans, and about the rich development of Native American literature, fiction and poetry, and especially innovate native authors.

Gerald will be honored at a spring feast at the White Earth Tribal and Community College from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 10. He will visit the college library where he’s donated a multitude of his writings as inspiration to the students. He will give a presentation to the Multicultural Studies students along with a section of College Writing students. This event is FREE and open to all in the community.

Join Mr. Vizenor at Shooting Star Casino Hotel and Entertainment for a FREE book talk on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. Mr. Vizenor will be introduced by Erma Vizenor.

Mr. Vizenor will also speak to several high school classes about his life history and inspiration for writing during his residence in Mahnomen. Be sure to join us for this event!

Mr. Vizenor’s artisit-in-residence is sponsored by Lake Agassiz Regional Library and made possible through an “Authors in Communities” grant from the Minnesota Humanities Center. This event is supported in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF). Shooting Star Casino Hotel and Entertainment generously provided the space for the FREE public event on Tuesday, May 11.
