All ages are invited to Moorhead Library on Monday, October 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. for a free Suitcase Science workshop presented by a team from the Science Museum of Minnesota. The workshop hopes to foster a connection between objects and community. Please pre-register by noon on Monday, October 4 by calling 218-233-7594.
Suitcase Science is a community-inspired theatre piece and exhibit that highlights many scientific disciplines: anthropology, geology, chemistry, sociology and material culture.
The workshop will involve creative exercises, games, and conversations designed to elicit stories through the use of objects. All participants will be asked to bring two objects that have meaning, significance, or value to him or her. Any type of object will work, and objects will be needed for workshop purposes only. We will not be collecting the objects, only the stories they inspire. We will be documenting the objects themselves with video and/or still photography.
The Science Museum of Minnesota’s team will utilize the community stories as inspiration to create the show and exhibit. We will not use any stories or video without consent, and we will respect anyone’s wish to remain anonymous.
The exhibit component will have a presence in community centers, libraries, theaters, museums and senior centers throughout the state.
Programming is sponsored by Lake Agassiz Regional Library and the Science Museum of Minnesota and supported in part or in whole with money from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage fund.
