Under the general supervision of the IT Director, the Computer Technician:
- Manages the maintenance of computers including peripherals and software in the LARL Regional Office, branch libraries, and LINK Sites.
- Provides technical support through the Library’s computer network to staff in LARL and the technical contact in Northwest Regional Library (NWRL) as a member of the Help Desk Team.
- Procure, install, troubleshoot, and repair workstations such as:
- Desktop PCs
- Procure, install, troubleshoot, and repair peripherals such as:
- Flatbed and Barcode Scanners
- LCD Projectors
- Procure, configure, install, troubleshoot, and repair mobile devices such as:
- iPads and other IOS devices
- Android Tablets
- Manage and maintain PC software within LARL and NWRL such as:
- Integrated Library System (ILS) client
- Office productivity applications
- PC security and management applications
- Maintain records documenting licensing, versions, and configurations of workstations, peripherals, and software; maintain spare PC/peripheral equipment parts, supplies, and equipment storage inventory.
- Make recommendations and plan, in consultation with the IT Director, for the implementation of hardware and software for the LARL region.
- Create deployment packages and deploy new software and configuration changes to computers using a software deployment tool.
- Provide technical support for users as part of the Help Desk Team including (but not limited to):
- Supporting LARL/NWRL technology needs, in-taking, identifying, prioritizing, and resolving customer calls related to PCs, LAN, WAN, web issues, and other LARL-supported technologies.
- Using Help Desk software, comply with Help Desk procedures and meet Help Desk performance goals.
- Working with the IT Director to create and update PC images when needed for new and existing PC’s; assist with roll-out of new images.
- Assisting with implementing new technologies and upgrades from testing and implementation to production status.
- As assigned, participate in technology project teams.
- As assigned, participate in the presentation of LARL’s technology-based training
- Support Help Desk Team by providing instruction, documentation, technical information, and other assistance as needed.
- Must be able to operate office equipment including but not limited to network copier, facsimile machine, postage meter, telephone system, digital camera, dolly.
- Must be able to touch type.
- Perform other related duties as requested by the IT Director, Automation Coordinator, or the Regional Library Director.
- Knowledge of computer technology, including (but not limited to):
- PCs and laptops
- Windows operating system (XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, Multipoint Server)
- Linux (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu) for kiosk use.
- Printers (Thermal Receipt, Laser)
- Scanners (Flatbed, Barcode)
- Knowledge of computer troubleshooting and repair.
- Knowledge of computer installation and configuration.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and shift focus between multiple projects.
- Ability to work well independently and with others.
- Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Ability to research/study new products and pricing information; knowledge and skill in using the Internet for research and downloading information.
- Knowledge and experience with operating systems (currently, Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server Multipoint ), hardware, MS Office software, and networking fundamentals.
- Basic windows scripting knowledge to automate tasks and deploy software. (Powershell, Windows Command Shell, Autoit).
- Ability to travel to all branch and LINK Site locations. Must be able to navigate rural MN using a map and addresses.

High school diploma, with some college preferred, including courses in computer science and networking operations and/or 1-2 years comparable experience or training.

- Works indoors in a basement (no natural light), climate-controlled environment approximately 80 percent of the time.

Work location is in the Regional Office of Lake Agassiz Regional Library in Moorhead, MN. This position is 40 hours per week position, Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm. May be required to work beyond normal schedule for occasional roll-outs of new equipment.
