Breckenridge Public Library shared Great Big Story's video.

Great Big Story
Due to our ongoing renovation and current lack of furniture we won't be hosting a #BannedBooksWeek display this year, but this won't stop us from celebrating the freedom to read. 🤓📚

If you're interested in checking out some great banned/challenged books, stop by the circulation desk and we'd love to help you pull some from our shelves or request them from other branches.

In the meantime, check out this super cool banned books art installation called the "Parthenon of Books" created by South American Artist, Marta Minujín. #WordsHavePower

In Kassel, Germany, at the very the site where Nazis once burned over 2,000 books by Jewish and Marxist writers, one artist has built a colossal tribute to free speech. Welcome to the “Parthenon” of banned books, a powerful installation at documenta 14.

Breckenridge Public Library added an event.

This event is open to adults and older youth who are interested in learning about photography and lighting. Please join photographer Meghan Kirkwood for an interactive workshop on portable studio lighting. Studio lighting is used to create evocative photographs of a range of subjects, including portraits, fashion, architecture, and wildlife.
This workshop will introduce participants to some of the key equipment used to create portraits on-location. Kirkwood will also discuss how studio lighting can be used to transform the representation of other subjects, such as landscapes, and some of her own work. Participants should be prepared to be photographed or assist in creating portraits of others in the group.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
