Detroit Lakes Library Club to Present Documentary and Q&A with Producer Carl Oberholtzer

Join the Detroit Lakes Library for Library Club on October 24 at 2pm. Refreshments will be served prior to the program, so arriving early is encouraged. Don’t miss a presentation by historian and producer Carl Oberholtzer and a viewing of the documentary, The Mission of Herman Stern. The documentary tells the true story of how one person rescued 125 German Jewish refugees from persecution and possible death from within Nazi Germany during the 1930s and World War II.

An immigrant from Germany, Mr. Stern worked from his Valley City, North Dakota clothing store to rescue refugees. Though humble, his heroics eventually became known and was awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Roughrider Award, the highest civic award in North Dakota.

About Carl Oberholtzer:
Carl served as a teacher of regular and advanced placement history courses at North High School in Fargo for many years. He would go on to serve as the History Specialist when Fargo won the coveted American History Grant through the Department of Education. Carl served as the historian, co-writer and co-producer on the Stern documentary. The film is scheduled to be viewed at the Global Peace Film Festival in Florida, 2023.
