Detroit Lakes Library Gains New “Art Quilt” On Display

The Detroit Lakes Public Library has a new, fun, and colorful piece of art displayed on the wall above its main desk.  An “Art Quilt” wall hanging was designed, pieced, and quilted by members of the Lakes Area Quilt Guild and gifted to the library as a community service project.

Contributing members sewed blocks using materials and colors of their own choosing to depict books on a shelf.  Looking closely, one will see a hedgehog, kitty, fairy, spider, and other critters peeking out from the books. The Lakes Area Quilt Guild meets the 4th Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Detroit Lakes Police Department.  The Guild welcomes quilters of all levels.

All library location closed after 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 24 and closed Wednesday, December 25 in observance of the holiday.
