Library Systems Technician – Regional Office (Moorhead, MN)

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the IT Director, the Library Systems Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the Integrated Library System (ILS), in addition to various IT functions, services, training and analytics. 

Essential Duties:

  • Manage ILS workflows, troubleshooting, and day-to-day functions to meet customer and staff needs
  • Provide group and one-on-one staff training while maintaining training documentation
  • Maintain ILS data, including running reports, data cleanup, changing rules, etc.
  • Provide IT support

Other Duties:

  • Support Help Desk Team by providing instruction, documentation, technical information, troubleshooting and other assistance as needed
  • Provide technical support as part of the Help Desk Team including (but not limited to):
    • Assisting with implementing new technologies and upgrades from testing and implementation to production status
    • Assisting with third party services
    • Participating on technology project teams
  • Assist in developing the annual budget for ILS services with the IT Director
  • Participate in national and regional library committees
  • Provide backup support to the region in the absence of LARL IT Director
  • Create and update information on the LARL website and intranet as requested
  • Identify and implement technology efficiencies
  • Work with vendors to execute short-term and long-term projects according to plan, standards and budget
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the IT Director or Executive Director

  • Proficient with software for data reporting and manipulation (Excel and Google Sheets)
  • Create and maintain training videos
  • Familiarity with SQL for creating custom reports
  • Scripting/programming familiarity for automating tasks
  • Understanding HTML for website troubleshooting 
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Comprehension skills to learn new technical skills quickly

Education/Experience/License:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years IT experience
  • Library experience preferred
  • A valid drivers’ license and ability to travel frequently to other LARL locations required. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities, but may offer work direction to support staff and assist staff working on ILS-related and special projects.

Language Ability: 

Able to communicate clearly using English, both written and oral.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

This is an in-person working position

  • Able to stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push/pull, up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to use hands to grasp a barcode scanner and keyboard for extended periods.
  • The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds.
  • Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. This is not just the ability to see a person or object, but the ability to recognize features as well.
  • Ability to drive to other locations as needed.

Working Conditions: 

This position is 40 hours per week. Salary Range: 

$20.00 – $23.50 per hour
