Celebrate the wonder of our feathered friends during Bird Month at the Crookston Public Library! This “Bird-Stravaganza” series features expert-led presentations, hands-on family activities, and a look at the intersection of avian science and art. Whether you are a seasoned birder or a curious beginner, join us to explore the beauty and importance of birds in our community.

Avian Ecology with Dr. John Loegering
Wednesday, February 11 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Join UMC professor and avian ecologist Dr. John Loegering for an engaging deep dive into the world of wild birds and their habitats. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Loegering will share professional insights on local birds, as well as how to enhance your local landscape for wildlife.

Family Bird Celebration & Workshop
Saturday, February 14 from 11:00am – 1:00pm
Fly on down to the library for a day of hands-on fun where you can build your own bird feeders, create puppets, and explore flight patterns with paper airplanes. We will also provide everything you need to know to participate in this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count! This program is geared for youth and families, but all ages are welcome to join the fun.

Art, Birds & Life with Ross H. Hier
Friday, February 20 from 4:00pm – 5:00pm
Wrap up Bird Month with retired MN DNR Wildlife Manager and artist Ross H. Hier as he shares personal stories from a lifetime of birding. Attendees will enjoy a showcase of Ross’s stunning watercolor bird paintings and have the chance to share their own observations during a Q&A session.
