Detroit Lakes Library Announces Workshop Series for Job Seekers

The Detroit Lakes Public has partnered with the Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program to offer a Job Search Workshop Series, which is open to anyone who is seeking help for their job search. Each workshop will feature a unique aspect of job searching; participants are welcome to attend one or all of the workshops.

Creative Job Search on Wednesday, September 1 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
This condensed workshop will provide the practical advice needed to plan and launch a successful job search, including how to prepare for a job hunt, identify your skills, find the right job seeking sites and stay organized.

Expert Application: Wednesday, September 8 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.  

The first step to acing an interview and getting a job offer is successfully completing a job application. Join us for a free workshop to learn how to fill out paper or online applications and answer tough questions and get an overview of what can be asked or not asked on an application. Join us to get answers to commonly asked questions, including:

  • Can I type or hand write responses to application questions?
  • What if I do not know how to answer a question?
  • Can questions be left blank?
Resume and Cover Letters: Wednesday, September 15 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Your resume can be a ticket or a roadblock to job interviews. Attend an assisted workshop to learn the secrets to composing a standout resume and put yourself ahead of the competition. Identify your skills, write and leave with a polished resume and cover letter with this workshop.

Join us to discover the purpose of an interview and learn the secrets to successful job interviewing. Practice your interviewing skills and learn how to shine in unusual situations.
