What is a LARL Student Card?
The LARL Student Card is a virtual card. Rather than using a physical library card with a barcode on it, students are given a code they can use to access library resources. For instance, Moorhead students will use their MAPS ID number + a prefix as the library card number. Example: MAPS123456 or DLPS912345.
What will my student be able to access with a Student Card?
Students will have access to all of Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s print and digital resources. This means that students may access online resources, such as eBooks, eAudiobooks, online research databases, etc. In addition, students may visit their local public library and check out physical materials (including books, movies and magazines) as with a regular library card. It is the responsibility of the student’s parent/guardian to make decisions regarding what is suitable for their child.
Will my student have to pay library fines? What about items that are not returned?
The Student Card follows the same rules as the library’s regular “youth” library card, which do not accrue late fees. The only cost would be for replacing lost or damaged items.
When will my student library card expire?
Student cards will expire at the beginning of the next school year, unless your student is once again enrolled. This allows continued access through the summer break. You will not need to opt in again if your child remains enrolled in the school district for the next school year.
Can my student have both a Lake Agassiz Regional Library card and a LARL Student Card?
Yes, your student can continue to use their current LARL cards, or use the new student card. The student card will be an additional account that uses your student’s MAPS ID number + a prefix as the library card number. Example: MAPS123456
