Detroit Lakes Library Hosting Special Art Exhibit Inspired by Literature

The Detroit Lakes Public Library is hosting a special art exhibit featuring mixed media artwork inspired by stories and books like George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” and Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”.

Artist M.A Papanek-Miller creates layered mixed media and drawing related artworks informed by human relationships with animals, plants, water access and use which are seasoned with a bit of humor and worry. Images are drawn from collected childhood and related objects believing in the imbued spirit and inwardness of things and that in every object there is a story. Papanek-Miller’s art will be on display from July 7-27, 2023 in the main meeting room of the Detroit Lakes Public Library. Funding in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council with McKnight Foundation funding.

Papanek-Miller was awarded an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, received an Individual Artist Grant from the Seattle Arts Commission, and exhibited with Jean Albano Gallery in Chicago. She has an MFA in Art, from the University of Houston, TX, is a Professor and the Director of The Art School at DePaul University and served in similar positions at The University of Montana, Bemidji State University, and at Cornish College of the Arts. Her home base is in the Northwoods Lake Country of Minnesota.

All library location closed after 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 24 and closed Wednesday, December 25 in observance of the holiday.
