Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

This is a great historical fiction novel that addresses a real crime that happened to many less fortunate families by one woman full of greed. It is a heart wrenching read, especially because we know the tragedies described most likely are the real stories of many survivors, but it has a heart warming ending that helps to reconcile the many emotions the reader will go through while reading the book. If you like realistic fiction and historical fiction, this book book will grab you from the first page. I was also appreciative that it is what I would consider a “clean read”.
