This year we are exploring the history and culture of Minnesota through music, history and literature with a series of events across Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s region. The Musicians of PolkaSol
Join us for a lively performance featuring the music of two accordions and a violin. The musicians of PolkaSol will bring a variety of musical offerings to our community, including polkas, waltzes and old time songs, as well as music from Scandinavia, Ireland, France and more.

Join award-winning author and publisher Ryan Jacobsen to hear the behind-the-scenes story of how a biography of football star Adam Thielen came to be.
Genealogy and DNA Testing Workshop (Sept. 23-Oct. 2)
Level up your genealogy research skills and learn about DNA testing. DNA testing using services such as Ancestry.com or 23andMe can reveal insights into ethnicity, find relatives, identify inherited health risks or prove (or even disprove) relationships.
Discover the Nordic Noir Genre (Sept. 24-Oct.2)
Professor James Kaplan will share how Scandinavian crime thrillers offer readers a new way of experiencing Scandinavian culture and heritage. Dr. Kaplan, a professor emeritus at Minnesota State University Moorhead, will offer a background on the Påskekrim tradition, which is the tradition of watching or reading stories about crime during Easter, as well as an overview of popular Scandinavian crime novels including how these books fit into the context of current social, political and economic concerns in Scandinavia.
Music by Mestifonía (Oct. 2-3)
Join us for a performance by Mestifonía, a Minnesota-based band that blends Colombian, Bolivian, and American talent in a unique setlist of styles from the Iberian Peninsula and South America, bringing to life the sounds of fado, flamenco, cueca, tango, bolero and more.
Musical Impressions: the Art of George Morrison (Oct. 8)
This one-of-a-kind artistic performance will feature a presentation of 128 images of artist George Morrison’s work from the 1940s through 2000, set to original jazz compositions composed and performed by George Morrison’s son Briand Morrison, and Roxann Berglund.
“Virgil Wander” Author Leif Enger (Oct. 15-17)
Bestselling author Leif Enger will discuss his latest book “Virgil Wander” which tells the enchanting and timeless story of the residents of a small Midwestern town struggling to revive their community.
Writing Memory Stories Workshop (Oct. 29-30)
72 years after he was born, Wendell Affield discovered who his biological father was and gained seven new siblings overnight. In this workshop, Affield will share the story of how he unearthed previously undiscovered family secrets using writing exercises and strategies to reawaken old memories – happy, sad and traumatic – through sensory triggers.
