We are thrilled to invite the public to participate in our winter reading program for adults, Hot Reads for Cold Nights.
The rules for the program are simple: read or listen to four books, audiobooks, eBooks, or eAudiobooks for a chance to win prizes.
To participate, simply pick up an official entry form at a local LARL location or fill out the form below. The program will begin on Saturday, January 2 and will end Thursday, February 28. All of Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s 22 locations are offering this program. Prizes include mugs, totes, calendars and more!
Don’t know what to read? Use Next 5 Books, LARL’s recommendation program. Simply enter the titles of books you’ve enjoyed and a librarian will provide you with personalized suggestions! Don’t forget to visit our digital library to browse and download eAudiobooks and eBooks.
All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will be closed on Thursday, November 24 in celebration of Thanksgiving Day. Regular hours of operation will resume Friday, November 25. All library locations will also close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23.
LARL’s branch libraries are located in Ada, Bagley, Barnesville, Breckenridge, Climax, Crookston, Detroit Lakes, Fertile, Fosston, Hawley, Mahnomen, McIntosh and Moorhead. LARL’s LINK sites are found in Cormorant, Frazee, Gonvick, Halstad, Hendrum, Lake Park, Rothsay, Twin Valley and Ulen.

Children are invited to explore Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites, a hands-on exhibit celebrating three popular titles (The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, Where’s Spot by Eric Hill and A Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats) from September 24-November 30 at the Moorhead Public Library, with a reception to celebrate its installation on Saturday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m.
The exhibit was created by Minnesota Children’s Museum and is sponsored by Bremer Bank. Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites is made possible by funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Congratulations to Mary Haney, Director of the Detroit Lakes Public Library, for her Minnesota Library Association (MLA) Above and Beyond award nomination. Mary was nominated for the award for her work on the “Once Upon a Time…” a Monument to Libraries, Literacy and Imagination project (sculpture on the Detroit Lakes Public Library grounds). The winner will be announced at the 2016 MLA Convention.
The community is welcome to take advantage of LARL’s book sale in the lower level of the Moorhead Public Library (118 5th St. S.) this fall.
Thousands of books will be available for purchase including a variety of non-fiction, fiction and children’s books. The available selection will be updated each day of the sale, and other equipment including used computer monitors will be for sale.
Customers may fill a bag with items for five dollars (computer equipment priced individually). Proceeds of the sale will be used to support the Lake Agassiz Regional Library collection.
The book sale will run on Thursday, September 15 and Friday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and on Saturday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
This fall, we will welcome a series of performers, authors, historians and experts, in celebration of the talent and stories of Minnesota.
Presenters include paranormal expert Chad Lewis, award-winning Kao Kalia Yang, musician Nate Hance and more! Additional details are available at each of the Lake Agassiz Regional Library locations. The presentations will begin September 22 and will continue through December. The series is made possible through funding from Minnesota’s Legacy Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
